After years of our Autistic son making costumes that were always really interesting, I kept getting the feeling that he wasn't feeling it. I asked him "Do you really like going trick or treating?" and he said "No, I wish I didn't have to go." and I was stunned because I had never thought about it that way and didn't realize we were making him do something that he didn't want to do. I told him "Listen bud, you don't have to do this, it's completely optional." He was so thrilled. Now he likes to hand out candy, and has devised a way to get a train to deliver the candy to the door. He's happier than ever and it helped us see the Holiday outside of our eyes. I'm a Halloween Fanatic, I live it all year round and I forget sometimes that others don't love it as much as me. We have tried to recreate the holiday a bit to allow our different kids to enjoy it in thier own way and time and everyone is much happier.
