Boudin Bakery and Sourdough

Boudin is The Original San Francisco Sourdough to many of the Bay areas many residents. You can buy Boudins bread all over the Bay Area at the outlets or Grocery Stores. In Business for over a century, Boudin still bakes their sourdough fresh every day using the same mother dough cultivated from the original mother sourdough starter. With their longevity, multiple locations, and supermarket sales Boudin has cemented their place in San Francisco's rich culinary history. In 1849, Baker Isidore Boudin struck gold with four simple ingredients: flour, water, salt, and mother dough. Some food historians claim that Sourdough bread traces its origins to ancient Egypt and is common in parts of Europe. It became a staple in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush of 1849. Gold miners valued it for their camps because of its durability, and the relative ease of obtaining yeast. Initially, it was thought that San Francisco was the only place where San Francisco Sourdough Bread could be made because its naturally foggy climate cultivated this specific type of yeast. Local bakers, (including Boudin) swore that no one could reproduce it outside of the city — adding to its allure. It has now been discovered all over the world, the specific strain of bacteria that lends its name of the bacteria is “L.- sanfranciscensis.” #sourdough#sourdoughstarter #sanfrancisco #boudin#boudinbakery
